All you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy S6

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is the latest (and finest) incarnation of the Galaxy range of phones from Samsung. The Galaxy S6 is less of an upgrade from the Galaxy S5 and more of a complete redesign from the ground up.

Previously, some critics would suggest that Samsung produce great phones, but the aesthetics could be better. It seems that Samsung has taken this criticism on board and created a stunningly beautiful S6 (and S6 Edge) range of phones made from high quality metal and glass. Samsung have decided to use Gorilla Glass 4 on both the front and back of the device with aluminium around the edges. This not only makes the device look incredibly stylish it also gives the phone a premium feel which is exactly what is required when up against lauded rivals such as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s.

The screen is on the large size at 5.1 inches which is in keeping with the current trend for manufacturers to create large screen devices. It is also one of the best screens ever seen on a mobile device. The Super AMOLED screen runs a resolution of 1440 x 2560 with 577 ppi which means the definition and colour is out of this world. Watching or streaming video on this phone is an absolute joy.

Incredibly, the Samsung Galaxy S6 houses a 64-bit octa-core processor of its own build (using two quad-core processors running at 2.1GHz and 1.5GHz respectively) along with 3GB of RAM. It is the first time Samsung have used an 8 core processor in a mobile phone and as such it outstrips virtually every smartphone on the market in terms of sheer processor power and speed.

The camera on the S6 is the same excellent camera that is used in the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The 16 MP camera takes breath taking motion shots due to the motion processing technology on-board and low level lighting shots have been improved by new Samsung tech introduced on the S6 version of the camera. If you enjoy taking the odd selfie or two, the S6 has a 5 MP camera which also has a wide group shot option to help get all your friends in the shot. Video can be shot in full HD at 1080p and also at the enhanced 2160p for even greater clarity.

If there is one slight weakness with the Galaxy S6 it would be the 2,550mAh battery. You should be able to get a full days’ worth of use out of the phone which is about standard for high end smartphones, but it is a little disappointing that the battery is less capable than that of the previous Samsung Galaxy S5. Also, the fact that the battery is not removable could cause some power users concern. It is likely that Samsung took the decision to have a fixed battery due to their inclusion of wireless charging on the S6. You can get a wireless charging port directly from Samsung. There are even some furniture makers that are integrating the technology to wirelessly charge devices. On the other hand, charging the phone is astoundingly fast. If using the fast charging cable that comes with the phone you can get the battery from zero to around 30% in ten minutes or so, with a full charge to 100% taking just under 1.5 hours.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy S6 is a premium smartphone that is one of the best handsets available and arguably the best Android handset of all time. Naturally, the phone isn’t cheap, but you can get it on a monthly contract free of charge. Better still, you can get a free refurbished Samsung Galaxy S6 on many great tariffs.
