Each mobile phone retailer have their own policies as regards the condition of refurb contract phones that they sell, but the majority of refurb phones sold on contract are in excellent condition to the extent that it would be extremely difficult to tell whether they were brand new of refurbished. As most refurbished phones have been returned as part of an initial guaranteed return policy if the customer changes their mind, the phone are usually in mint condition. Even if the phone has not been used but the box has been opened, the retailer cannot repackage the phone and sell it as new – technically it is second hand so it must be sold as a refurbished model.
The one disadvantage with choosing a refurbished phone deal is that stock levels can vary, and they can be low. Due to the fact that refurbished phone stock levels are determined largely by customers that return phones it is impossible for retailers to know when they will get returns, what type of phone it will be and how many they will get at any given time. For this reason stock can be low at times. Also, refurbished deals are extremely popular as they represent such good value so as soon as new refurb stock appears, the deals usually sell out very quickly.
A good tip if you are finding that there is no stock left for the deal you want is to make sure you check all the different coloured handsets because the link you have clicked to get to the deal will only typically show you the stock for that one colour. There may well be stock left of alternative colours in the phone model you would like.

Unfortunately, some retailers choose to keep the deals live on their sites even though they are out of stock. In this case you may want to keep trying alternative deals from one of our comparison tables, request that the mobile phone shop notify you when new stock is in, or select a new phone model entirely and try again. Sometimes retailers will provide you will an alternative option which is in stock so it is worth keeping a look out for these deals.

Usually, you will receive the same 12 month warranty on a refurbished mobile that you would with a brand new mobile phone. Occasionally some retailers have reduced this to a 6 month warranty for iPhone’s so you should check the terms and conditions of the mobile phone shop that the phone has been purchased from.
You should expect to receive a refurbished mobile phone in packaging that is different to the original phone packaging. Usually it will be an unbranded box.
