iPhone 6

The iPhone 6 is a multi-award winning phone from Apple which was the first iPhone to move away from the 4 inch screen in favour of the larger 4.7 inch IPS LCD screen which output at 1334 x 750 px. The resolution is the same as the iPhone 5s, but what Apple have done is to increase the contrast ratio from 800:1 to 1400:1 on the iPhone 6 as well as adding dual domain pixels. What this adds up to is a screen that is amazingly clear and crisp with excellent performance in direct sunlight (a feat attributed by Apple to the way the phone display components have been located which means less screen reflection from sunlight).

At launch it was one of the thinnest phones in production at a mere 6.9 mm and weighed only 129 grams. When you have the phone in your hand it certainly feels light and the rounded edges give the device a softer feel than previous incarnations of the iPhone. Although the screen is larger on the iPhone 6 than on the previous 5s model, the phone doesn’t feel unwieldy in the hand. I would go so far as to say that this is about the right size for most that want a one-handed operation phone. Any larger and you would need to use both hands for some tasks.

Performance-wise the iPhone 6 runs significantly faster than its predecessor. Apple claims that the new Apple A8 processor runs 25% faster than the A7 and the graphics capabilities are boosted by 50%. This means that in reality the iPhone 6 runs blazingly fast even though the A8 processor is only dual core compared to some competitors’ use of quad-core processors. Apple manage to optimise their processor speed by clever engineering and a best in class operating system in iOS9.

The battery life is decent on the iPhone 6, certainly when considering the thinness of the device. The official standby time is 250 hours which is equivalent to the iPhone 5s, but benchmark tests have shown the iPhone 6 to last slightly longer during rigorous battery draining tasks. Also, the lightning port helps to charge the phone by around a third after only 30 minutes charge time.

There are three different colour options to choose, these being space grey, silver and gold with models that offer 16GB or storage, 64GB or 128GB.
